Practice
Maria Ailio
Architect and founder.
Experience and careful design
I am an architect specialising in renovation. I established my own practice in 2000, after working at several architectural firms.
My work ranges from listed churches and historic villas to renovations for housing companies and alterations to retail and office spaces. I also design new buildings.
I have given lectures on subjects including Wivi Lönn and Finland’s National Romantic architecture.
The building and the client
Every renovation project begins with a close study of the building. Understanding its history, as well as the client’s wishes and practical needs, is central to my work.
A successful outcome depends on considered design decisions and collaboration. I consider how spaces will be used, the choice of materials, and construction and operating costs.
